Submission Process and Evaluation for Authors

Process Overview

  • Initial Assessment: All submissions are initially assessed by an editor to ensure alignment with HIJ South America’s aims and scope, specifically checking for relevance to health challenges and innovations within the South American context.
  • Peer Review: Submissions fitting the journal’s criteria are sent for double-blind peer review to determine their suitability for publication.
  • Desk Rejection: Submissions may be desk rejected without peer review if they fail to meet the journal’s quality standards or lack regional relevance.

Responsibilities Before Submission

  • Permissions: Authors must obtain permission to publish any included material such as photos, documents, and datasets.
  • Author Consent: All listed authors must consent to be identified as contributors and agree to the submission.
  • Ethics Approval: Research involving human or animal subjects must have approval from an appropriate ethics committee (IRB), compliant with the legal requirements of the country where the study was conducted.

Submission Preparation Checklist

Before submitting to HIJ South America, ensure the following:

  • Alignment with Guidelines: The submission adheres strictly to the requirements specified in the Author Guidelines.
  • Originality: The work has not been published elsewhere nor is it under consideration by another journal.
  • Reference Accuracy: All references have been thoroughly checked for accuracy, completeness, and adherence to the required citation style.
  • Figures and Tables: All figures and tables are properly numbered, labeled, and of high resolution.
  • Permissions Secured: Written permissions have been acquired for all included third-party materials such as photos and datasets.

Structuring Your Submission

  • Title and Abstract: Craft a concise title and a standalone abstract to enhance the clarity and accessibility of your research for a broad, international audience.
  • Study Design and Argument: Ensure the research argument and study design are well-structured and articulated to improve reviewability and impact.
